A true luxury with heirloom potential, the Fishmann console features carved elements gilded in antiqued 22-karat gold and a top of Saint Laurent marble. The console measures 58 inches wide by 17 1/4 inches deep by 36 inches high. Custom sizes available. Visit site.

Randy Chen's ultramodern Vena collection utilizes the latest hydroform technology to create innovative shapes in aluminum tubing. This table has a glass top. In Taiwan, phone 866-426-814-791 for information.

We like the sculpturality of Bronzeforms II. Handmade and one-of-a-kind, the two-part cocktail table has antique brass sides, a maintenance-free pewter top, and castors for mobility. The piece doubles (and triples) as a seat and ottoman.

Gavin Benjamin's Breakdown table offers a terrific strategy for coping with small urban spaces. Interchangeable legs allow easy transformation from coffee table to dining table. The design features a white lacquered wood base with two useful drawers and a Formica Color Core top. Visit site.

Samuel Chan has confidently edited down the Flyt writing desk to the slimmest possible profile, precisely what's needed. Surface-mounted drawers add a quirky yet practical detail. From England. Phone 44-20-7371-0301 for information.

Nuova Intarsia, by architects La Puca and Cappelli, is the latest sideboard in a collection by luminaries such as Aldo Rossi and Ettore Sottsass. The surface decoration is created by chiseling wood and refilling with colored resin, which is then illuminated from behind the console's acrylic back. Stephanie Odegard Collection, 200 Lexington Avenue, Suite 1206, New York, NY 10016; 212-545-0069.

Juventa

Peter van Riet's exploration of color and three-dimensionality gave rise to Layer, whose layers of veneer, lacquer, and acrylic—often in a relief pattern—create a certain playfulness. In the case of this high cupboard, the doors feature applied veneer or acrylic, with a frame in corresponding green, red, blue, pink, or brown lacquer. From Belgium, phone 32-56-50-01-91 for information.

McGuire

Robert Kuo's Asian-inspired Waterfall nesting tables take their name from their softly sloping corners. Each handcrafted piece is painstakingly finished in 60 coats of red lacquer—hand-sanded between each layer. The design is signed, numbered, and dated. Visit site.
