The Sierra Club is making it easier than ever for homeowners adopt energy efficient home practices. This month, the organization launched Green Home, a Web site dedicated to helping US residents take the guesswork out of greening their homes.

The interactive site brings the green movement to a personal level by allowing users to see the effects of their current living practices and help plan for their future home health and energy efficiency. The site features a CO2 calculator to tabulate a home’s total carbon footprint, as well as a home health quiz to investigate indoor air quality and other factors impacting residents’ health. To help users grasp the concept of going solar, Green Home offers a solar center where prospective adopters can discover the estimated costs involved for purchasing and installing solar panels, federal and local tax credits and incentives, and the future savings involved in the investment.

The site also allows users to search for solar installation providers, home energy auditors, and interior designers based on their zip codes to put their energy-efficient ideals into action. The Sierra Club encourages greening professionals and specialists to sign up to be listed on the site. The listings are for free for a calendar year, and future costs, though currently undetermined, will be minimal beyond the first year.

The Sierra Club introduced Green Home this week in New York with a special launch at the city’s greenest residential high-rise, The Visionaire, which was designed by Pelli Clark Pelli Architects and is en route to receive LEED Platinum certification later this year.
