Top International Hospitality Destinations Honored

An awards ceremony will be held in November.

Mairi Beautyman -- Interior Design, 8/10/2007 12:00:00 AM

Each year, hospitality projects around the world compete for a coveted Gold Key Award, honoring excellence in hospitality design. Presented by the International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show and sponsored in part by Interior Design, the 27th annual awards program drew more than 150 projects from 17 countries and territories.

Criteria includes aesthetic appeal, practicality, and functionality of design. The jury--industry notables--was composed of: Stephen Brandman, Thompson Hotels; Carl D'Aquino, D'Aquino Monaco; Tony Fortuna, Lenox Room; and Christopher Keller, Gettys. This year, HBA/Hirsch Bedner Associates picked up the Designer of the Year award.

"The Gold Key Awards generate a special buzz, defining the trend direction of hospitality design," says Christian Falkenberg, IH/M&RS show manager. "The design firms represented amongst the 2007 finalists are to be commended for their ingenuity and attention to the intricate details that elevate these properties to a higher level."

Winners will be honored at the Gold Key Awards Breakfast on Monday, November 12 at New York's Mandarin Oriental Hotel. The event coincides with the 92nd annual IH/M&RS, November 10-13 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
