Miami Museum Honors Design Contributions

An annual award in honor of Florence Knoll will kick off in 2008.

Mairi Beautyman -- Interior Design, 1/18/2007 12:00:00 AM

From March 2-4, Miami’s Wolfsonian–FIorida International University will celebrate five individuals and one corporation for their outstanding contributions to architecture, design, and design education with the annual Florida Design Legends awards program.

This year’s winners are: Architect, furniture, and interior designer Florence Knoll Bassett; attorney Dan Paul, currently on the counsel at the Miami law firm of Jorden Burt and former First Amendment lawyer for the Miami Herald; architect Michael Graves; Luminaire founders Nargis and Nasir Kassamali; and plastic containers manufacturer Tupperware Brands Corporation.

Part of the design and decorative art museum’s fifth-annual gala proceedings, “A Very Wolfsonian Weekend,” the awards program singles out individuals and firms with a presence in Florida. During the gala, the museum will officially launch the annual Florence Knoll Design Award, which will kick off in 2008. On Saturday, March 3, a sit-down dinner will be held in honor of the winners at Bacardi’s corporate headquarters, located north of downtown Miami.

Proceeds raised during the weekend will benefit museum curatorial and educational programs.

Patron tickets range from $500-$2,500. To purchase individual gala tickets or gala tables, contact Thea Smolinski via phone at 305-535-2631 or email at thea@thewolf.fiu.edu.
