Ready to make some noise in Southern California for the sixth year in a row is the CA Boom Design Show, which will descend upon Beverly Hills from June 26 through June 28.
For the first time, the modern and contemporary design and architecture showcase will take place in the legendary former Robinsons-May department store space on the corner of Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards, having outgrown last year's Barkar Hangar site in Santa Monica.
Targeting both design professionals and design-conscious consumers, the show will once again be divided into distinct zones by discipline—including international designers, national and limited-production manufacturers, modern prefab, indoor/outdoor living, modern parenting, surfaces and finishes, and studio furniture.
A recent design by panelist Ezequiel Farca.
A brand-new component is the 40,000-square-foot CA Boom Design Store, where attendees can purchase merchandise from manufacturers participating in the showcase. The store is a partnership with Project Angel Food, a non-profit that cooks and delivers meals to those affected by HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, which will receive a percentage of the show's proceeds.
The show's signature attraction, however, remains its design and architecture home tours. Attendees can tour five residential projects each day, including the Stahl House, the Pierre Koenig modernist masterpiece better known as Case Study House #22, which is located in the nearby Hollywood Hills.Â
"The CA Boom home tours have set an industry precedent of establishing an environment where potential clients can effectively and efficiently interact with five top-notch architects in the span of two to three hours," says show manager Charles Trotter.
CA Boom will also feature a two-day LEED accreditation workshop, featuring panel discussions like "Mobile Design for Today," moderated by Office of Mobile Design founder Jennifer Siegal, and "Hospitality Design," with a panel that includes famed Mexican designer Ezequiel Farca.
