Fourth Time's a Charm for Tricycle

Creative Excellence Award #4 is for Best Small Booth.

Staff -- Interior Design, 6/24/2005 12:00:00 AM

The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) likes what they see in Tricycle. This year, it gave them the Creative Excellence Award, Best Small Booth. Other winners were Armstrong Ceiling Systems for large booth, Maharam for small showroom, and Decca for large showroom.

The Tricycle message is one thing, but the fact that it communicated that message very well is what the Award was about.

"We are honored that the IIDA has recognized us with another Creative Excellence Award," says Tricycle chief brand officer Michael Hendrix. "We are also excited that the industry is realizing that design waste is an issue, and that something that can be done to help. We are working alongside the U.S. Green Building Council, whose LEED program is raising awareness and offering alternatives in planning and construction, as well as the Carpet America Recovery Effort, who is helping manufacturers keep carpet out of landfill. Together with Tricycle, which erases waste in the design process, we are changing the face of the industry with market-driven solutions."

The exhibit promoted awareness about waste generated in the design process of floorcovering specification and alternative processes to reduce this waste. An estimated 175,000 gallons of oil are used each year to create carpet samples, which are used only briefly before finding their way to landfill. More than 1 million pounds of carpet samples are landfilled annually. Tricycle's products and services use digital manufacturing to lessen design waste for floorcovering and wallcovering, as products in the automotive, aircraft and architecture industries are created and viewed digitally during the design process.

The booth also highlighted its other product which reduces sample wait time. The booth was designed by Tricycle's internal design team, led by designer Ben Horner.

This award will join a bevy of others, for Sustainable Design, Software Technologies, and a prior Creative Excellence Award, as well as many others.

Tricycle products and services were also featured at the NeoCon 2005 showrooms of Interface, Lees Carpets, and the Tandus Group, and Set Wallcovering Systems.
