Forward-Looking

edited by Sheila Kim-Jamet -- Interior Design, 4/1/2005 12:00:00 AM

Eyewear is the new frontier for designers who have already conquered other product categories. With accessories such as Umbra bags and Acme cufflinks to his credit, Karim Rashid recently collaborated with Swedish manufacturer Sceye on a collection of thin, high-tech titanium frames called Karim Vision, debuting next month.

The namesake founder and former owner of Ann Sacks Tile and Stone, took a bigger plunge, launching Amy Sacks Eyewear and Accessories, named for her daughter. This summer, that company will release Architecture for Eyes, a collection of reading glasses and shades, all by architects. Sacks has already commissioned designs from principals at American Design Company and Allied Works Architecture. amysacks.com; sceye.se.
