The Best Hospitality Design Around the World

Best Hotel Design and Guest Room both go to a hotel in Dubai.

Six design firms came out on top in the 2007 Gold Key Awards. Honoring the best in hospitality design, the awards were announced this week during the 92nd annual International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show (IH/M&RS) in New York.

A total of 150 entries came in from international firms; to qualify, hospitality properties must be built or renovated within the past 18 months. HBA/Hirsch Bedner Associates takes home the exclusive Designer of the Year award, which is sponsored by Interior Design and HOTELS.

  • Lobby/Reception
    Jeffrey Beers International (New York) for The Cove (The Bahamas)

  • Lounge/Bar
    Jeffrey Beers International (New York) for Seaglass Lounge - The Cove (The Bahamas)

  • Restaurants/Casual Dining
    CL3 Architects Limited (Hong Kong) for Nishimura Restaurant (Beijing)

  • Restaurants/Fine Dining
    Ministry of Design (Singapore) for SHO U (Singapore)

  • Spa
    Wilson Associates (Dallas) for Four Seasons Hong Kong (Hong Kong)

  • Suite
    Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (Chicago) for The Peaks Resort & Spa (Telluride, Colorado)

Manfred Steinfeld, co-founder of contract seating manufacturer Shelby Williams, picked up the Icon of Industry Award from NEWH, the Hospitality Industry Network. A $5,000 scholarship in Steinfeld's name was awarded to a student pursuing a career in the hospitality industry.

"This year's Gold Key Award winners exemplify success in hospitality design, creating properties that offer high-end design and luxury while maintaining functionality," says Christian Falkenberg, show manager. "We're proud to honor the design firms behind these impressive destinations for their ingenuity and influence on the design community."

IH/M&RS ran Saturday, November 10, through Tuesday, November 13 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
