In the heyday of Studio 54, New York experienced economic crises, increased crime, and the first cases of AIDS but produced some of the most avant-garde furniture, graphics, and fashion in the city's history.
Parsons the New School for Design examines that period of anxiety and creativity in "Anarchy to Affluence: Design in New York, 1974-1984." More than 75 pieces illustrate antiestablishment, punk, and industrial influences: a Ramones album cover; a dress by Betsey Johnson; and a bed made of scaffolding in a suite by Interior Design Hall of Fame members Laura Bohn and Joseph Lembo.
