From October 29–January 8, thousand of plastic balls take center stage at the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in Long Island, Queens, as part of the large-scale installation “Cloudless.” The abstract installation, located in the Duplex gallery, is the inspiration of Italian artist Loris Cecchini, who works in assorted media.
Creating what organizers call “an enormous biomorphic white form,” the plastic balls are enclosed by an internal framework of aluminum ladders. Suspended from the ceiling, the project is intended to be the artist's exploration of space and what defines it.
“With Cloudless, Cecchini investigates the borders between the natural and the artificial, and the relationships that human perception and cognition have to these divisions,” states press material.
Cecchini, who began internationally exhibiting in 1995, has participated in numerous solo shows in Europe and Asia. He is based in both Prato, Italy, and Beijing.
The exhibit was organized for P.S.1 by museum director Alanna Heiss. P.S.1 is the only U.S. stop for Cloudless—it was also installed at Galleria Continua in Beijing and at the Shanghai Duolun MOMA. After P.S.1, it will travel to the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, followed by the Villa Medici in Rome.
This exhibition is sponsored by FENDI and Rosa and Gilberto Sandretto.
P.S.1 is located at 22-25 Jackson Avenue at 46th Street.
