RugMark Raffle Supports Child-Free Labor

One lucky winner will walk away with Chinese River, a rug featuring butterflies in flight.

Mairi Beautyman -- Interior Design, 10/30/2007 12:00:00 AM

RugMark, a nonprofit organization combating child labor, is now accepting bids for its annual raffle. Participants will earn a chance to win a handmade rug donated by designer Emma Gardner and proceeds will support the organization's cause.

Gardner's rug, Chinese River, is valued at nearly $3,000. It features a six- by nine-foot motif of butterflies in flight intertwined with leaves, water, and spiral designs. "The rug is carved in cut loop and pile to form a harmonious whole," according to Gardner.

Raffle tickets are $25 for one, five for $100, 12 for $200, 32 for $500, and 70 for $1,000. The price does not include shipping costs for the carpet. The winner will be announced at RugMark's holiday party on December 6. Enter online or via regular mail: Send a check made out to RugMark USA to 2001 S Street NW, Suite 430, Washington, DC 20009. Write 'raffle' in the memo field.

RugMark works to end child labor and offer educational opportunities for children in India, Nepal, and Pakistan.
