Crypton Super Fabrics

The compounds used to manufacture Crypton are designed to be safe to handle. The compounds have a HMIS rating of 1-0-0-B. We also have very low BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) and COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) which makes the compounds biodegradable. Hi-Tex’s internal procedures for the recovery of chemicals used allows for minimal discharge into the sewer system. We also have procedures for spill control, which will avoid excessive discharge in to the sewer system.

Based on our chemistry, we have permission from OSHA to operate our facility without any secondary air cleaners. Even with this permission, and the fact that Crypton Coating Compounds contain less than 0.65% VOCs, Hi-Tex is undertaking a capital project designed to further reduce and almost eliminate VOC’S (Volatile Organic Compounds) from being discharged into the environment. This system is designed to scrub and filter the VOCs from our exhaust. The VOCs are captured in a biodegradable filter. We work with our employees by educating them on the composition of the chemicals used in our facility. We make MSDS sheets readily available. We have implemented procedures for general safety and to handle various emergencies. In order to improve the environment for our employees and help reduce the consumption energy, Hi-Tex invested in a new lighting system. This system provides the best possible light while consuming the least amount of energy. We continue to ask our employees, others and ourselves how we can work to improve our systems for both our employees and the overall environment.
