Terratex set to debut bio-based fabrics

Staff -- Interior Design, 11/15/2001 9:45:00 AM

Terratex, www.terratex.com, the family of environmentally conscious fabrics produced by Interface Fabrics Group, an Interface, Inc. company, is developing a programn to manufacture bio-based fabrics to be launched in 2002.

Calling the development of bio-based fabrics a 'huge breakthrough in environmental design,' Terratex announced that it is developing a program to manufacture bio-based fabrics in 2002. 'Bio-based' refers to the production of high performance synthetic fibers from organic, annually renewable resources. Bio-based fibers have many of the performance characteristics of synthetics, such as polyester, but are derived from annually renewable resources such as corn. The initial bio-based textiles bearing the Terratex brand name will be panel fabrics, which will be designed and sold by jobbers, furniture manufacturers and refurbishers in the industry.

Customers who see the Terratex name will be assured that the fabrics will function in today's contract market and that they are manufactured with continuously improving methods to reduce waste, emissions and energy and water usage.

'When it comes to specifying fabrics - be it post-consumer- or post industrial-polyester, reclaimed wool or now bio-based, IFG continually strives to reduce its impact on our planet,' said Paul Bennotti, director of Strategic Marketing. 'Terratex is the brand that designers can turn to for both information and products.'
