Turkish Designs on Display at Salone del Mobile

Exhibit puts designers’ approach in the spotlight for the international community for the first time.

Meagan O'Neill -- Interior Design, 3/5/2007 12:00:00 AM

During Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2007, which will be held April 18-23 in Milan, Turkish furniture company Nurus will bring together innovative Turkish designers with “Ilk in Milano,” a collaborative effort featuring unique designs and products. The exhibition aims to provide an experience with “the Turkish touch in design.” It will be accompanied by a series of events that will take place at the Zona Tortona in Superstudio Piu at the Salone.

Designers in Turkey recently have been responding to new needs and requirements to produce work that is more individual, yet at the same time contemporary, according to Nurus. Ilk, which means ''first'' in Turkish, reflects the idea of these designers to take the initiative and, for the first time, share their design approach with the international design community. The products shown will reflect both the richness of Anatolian heritage and contemporary design using leading-edge technologies and manufacturing processes.

Nurus will also sponsor “5 senses of Istanbul” at the Salone Internazionale de Mobile, an experimental design project of the Istanbul Technical University’s faculty of industrial design. The project was inspired by the film Crossing the Bridge: Sound of Ýstanbul.
