Here's this week's roundup of who's doing what and where in the design community.

International design firm Perkins + Will has purchased architecture, urban design and planning practices firm SMWM. The New York-based staff of SMWM is relocating to Perkins + Will's Manhattan office.

Andrew Walker is the new chairman of United Kingdom-based carpet manufacturer Brintons, the largest producer of Axminster carpets. Walker succeeds Michael Brinton, who will continue to serve as non-executive director and honorary president of the company.

International architecture and interior design firm BBG-BBGM is promoting senior partner Louis Hedgecock to managing partner to oversee architectural direction and strategy in the firm's New York office. Hedgecock will also serve as the firm's lead administrative partner, directing all business and legal activities.

German bathroom furnishings manufacturer Duravit is opening a New York outpost on Madison Avenue, its first stand-alone showroom in the United States.

Paul Heflin is the new senior principal for federal programs in the Alexandria, Virginia office of international architecture firm HDR Architecture. Michael Roughan has also joined HDR as the new healthcare principal in the firm's Boston office.

Miele, the German manufacturer of home appliances, has opened new showrooms in San Francisco and Princeton, New Jersey.

Penthouse D, the New York and Phoenix-based interior design firm founded by Danielle and Dirk Wallinger, is changing its name to Studio D.

Intérieurs, the showroom, retail store and design studio founded by Francine Gardner in New York, has opened a second location in West Hollywood, California.

Michelle Jones is the new managing principal in the San Francisco office of RIM Architects. Jones joined the firm in 1994 and helped establish its Guam office.

Office furnishings manufacturer Inscape Corporation has appointed Tom Mitchell as new regional manager for the Southwest. Mitchell, based in Phoenix, is responsible for the Arizona, New Mexico, and Las Vegas territories.
