And the Pritzker Goes to…

…Australian architect Glenn Murcutt. Known for his environmentally sensitive modernist residences, the 66-year-old Murcutt received the 2002 Pritzker Architecture Prize at a ceremony at Michelangelo's Campidoglio in Rome. A departure from the recent honors for architects of large-scale or high-profile projects—Tadao Ando, Renzo Piano, Rem Koolhaas—this year's prize cited the winner's thoughtfully designed houses, which respond to their natural surroundings and local climate.
