The West Coast location models adaptability and sustainable design.

Furniture manufacturer Haworth unveiled its new West Coast showroom to over 500 designers April 21, in an opening cosponsored by Interior Design. The showroom, located at the Water Garden in Santa Monica, California was designed with adaptability, restorative environments, and sustainability in mind.

Co-designed by Hall of Fame member Eva Maddox and the LA offices of Perkins & Will, much of the 18,000 square-foot interior was fabricated with recycled and renewable products such as wheatboard, and systems wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. The showroom boasts raised floors, moveable walls, energy saving lighting, and an underfloor heating and cooling system.

Conceived with West Coast needs in mind, the space will also act as a design resource center, offering advice from knowledgeable staff on subjects such as cost-effective building, reusability, project planning, and sustainability.  "This showroom illustrates our commitment to adaptable and sustainable work environments," says Haworth Chairman and CEO Dick Haworth.

The showroom will be an applicant for a gold certification in commercial energy and environmental design from the U.S. Green Building Council.
