For the first time, the American Physical Therapy Association has ventured into seating, and Haworth gets the prize. The office furniture manufacturer’s Zody chair is the first chair to be endorsed by the Association, a national professional organization representing more than 63,000 members.
Awarded after a review by physical therapist members of the association’s board of directors and staff, the endorsement reflects benefits to the user, product efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
Zody is equipped with a pelvic-supporting back support system and an asymmetrical lumbar support system, the latter is the result of a joint study between Haworth and The Human Performance Institute of Western Michigan University. This system allows the user to customize support--decrease or increase--on either side of the lower back.
“Zody offers a high level of individual control and is reasonably priced,” says APTA president Ben Massey, Jr. “We particularly favor the range of adjustment features it offers for users’ comfort.”
Greenguard certified Zody has also earned a Silver Best of NeoCon, a Gold Product Award at NeoCon Canada IIDEX, Gold Cradle to Cradle Product Certification from McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry, and a 2005 Good Design Award.
