East Meets West

Staff -- Interior Design, 10/1/2001 12:00:00 AM

The Asia Society in New York unveils its redesigned galleries with the inaugural exhibition Monks and Merchants: Silk Road Treasures from Northwest China, 4th–7th Century. The exhibition comprises more than 120 artifacts ranging from textiles and funerary furniture to ceramics, and documents a period of disunity in China's history between the Han dynasty and the Tang empire. Alongside Monks and Merchants, the Asia Society will also present selections from the its Rockefeller Collection and a show of two contemporary Indian artists. Monks and Merchants runs from the Society's opening on November 17 through January 6, 2002. Asia Society, New York, (212) 288-6400
