Lighting

Craig Kellogg -- Interior Design, 2/1/2006 12:00:00 AM

Branching Out

Bare and sculptural as a tree in winter, CPlighting's newGrowth aluminum chandeliers are tipped with glowing halogen buds. Christopher Poehlmann models each custom fixture on a different fallen tree branch, capturing its natural composition. Because the bulbs run on 110 volts, no transformer is needed. 3720 North Fratney Street, Studio 3F, Milwaukee, WI 53212; 866-597-4800; cplighting.com. circle 368

Andromeda International

The Venetian heritage of this manufacturer shines through in Diego Chilo and Fiorenzo Valbonesi's glass Aega floor lamps. Part of the DesignAlive collection, the luminous white, amber, red, blue, and gray fixtures measure 71 inches in height and 14 in diameter. Leucos, 11 Mayfield Avenue, Edison, NJ 08837; 732-225-0010; leucos.com. circle 369

Ingo Maurer

Originally designed for a Luxembourg bank, the Big Dish pendant has a fiberglass diffuser that's really a big dish—7 feet 6 inches across—illuminated by 150 watts of metal halide. The halogen floor-lamp version, called Satel.light, is significantly smaller, with a dish 311/2 inches across. It sits on an aluminum pole that's supported, in turn, by a steel base; both are painted black or silver. 89 Grand Street, New York, NY 10013; 212-965-8817; ingo-maurer.com. circle 370

Elettrica Rotaliana

Multitask with MultiPot, Dante Donegani and Giovanni Lauda's innovative concept combining lighting with cable management, a key holder, and several electrical sockets for European-style plugs. Just 4.2 watts of LEDs set the pot alight. 35 Via Della Rupe, 38017 Mezzolombardo (Trent), Italy; 39-0461-602376; rotaliana.it. circle 371

Zuii

Marcel Sigel and Alana Di Giacomo twist plastic shopping bags around wire, enhancing the bags' essential look and feel while reaffirming their usefulness—through recycling. Thanks to the draped plastic, light from the experimental Winter chandelier is softened and dispersed as if through milky glass beads. G.P.O. Box 5156, Melbourne, Victoria 3001, Australia; 61-40-777-1649; zuii.com. circle 372

Resolute

For a tortoiseshell effect, artisans roll hot glass bubbles in crushed colored glass, a technique that produced Douglas Varey's Jack ceiling fixture. It's available in tortoise or ivory, as are companion versions for walls and floors. 2101 Ninth Avenue, Suite 100, Seattle, WA 98121; 206-343-9323; resoluteonline.com. circle 373

Fire Farm Lighting

Fixtures from Adam Jackson Pollock's Kyoto family sit on tables, mount as sconces, or hang in clusters from his three-pendant chandelier canopies. The pendant's 16-inch-tall bronze-finished steel latticework frames a diffuser of flower-petal paper and styrene. The 8-foot adjustable cord attaches to a powder-coated steel canopy. P.O. Box 458, Elkader, IA 52043; 563-245-3515; firefarm.com. circle 374

Bilumen

Marco Zotta's shiny chrome or opaque nickel Astrislim is a cosmic spray of low-voltage 20-watt bulbs powered by direct current. (Transformer not included.) Diameters range from 2 feet 11/2 inches to 3 feet 11 inches. A. Bianchi, 41 Via Salomone, 20138 Milan, Italy; 39-02-5801-1203; bilumen.it. circle 375

FontanaArte

Two concealed 75-watt halogen bulbs highlight the die-cast, hand-finished aluminum diffuser of the 14-inch-high Mobius sconce by Lanzillo & Martinengo. The mount is brass, the wall bracket pressed steel. 64 North Moore Street, New York, NY 10013; 212-334-3295; fontanaarte.com. circle 376

Murano Designer Lighting

The Sole chandelier intersperses 60-watt candelabra-base incandescents with a sunburst of ribbed Murano glass rays, all suspended from wires or a thin tube finished in nickel or gold. Lengths for the rays range from approximately 7 inches to 2 feet 6 inches. Made to order, with a lead time of five weeks. 8428 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90069; 323-852-1800; muranodesignerlighting.com. circle 377

Modiss Iluminación

Alfonso Fontal says he endowed his Matrioshka floor lamp with feminine "intimacy"—the name refers to Russian nesting dolls. Available in three sizes, from 161/2 to 37 inches tall, the fixtures combine a glass globe in white with a glass base tinted red or gray. 185 Calle Bolivia, 08018 Barcelona, Spain; 34-93-303-40-03; modiss.com. circle 378

Barovier&Toso

From Forma Veneziana's archival line, Erfud chandeliers are festooned with cut-crystal drops. The glass arms—six, eight, 12, or 18 of them—come in spun-sugar green, yellow, violet, and red as well as colorless and black versions. Heights range from 2 feet 6 inches to 4 feet 7 inches. 28 Fondamenta Vetrai, 30141 Murano (Venice), Italy; 39-0417-39049; barovier.com. circle 379

Artemide

The Talak collection's fixtures use 13-watt miniature fluorescent tubes and thermoplastic resin diffusers. Tavolo, the table lamp, has a ZAMAC base also covered in thermoplastic resin, while Parete, the wall-mounted model, has a die-cast aluminum base, and Morsetto, a desk lamp, has a polished-aluminum base clamp. 1980 New Highway, Farmingdale, NY 11735; 631-694-9292; artemide.com. circle 381

Fabulux

Perched on a sturdy stem and heavy-duty harp, the 24-inch-high Tavalux table lamp's perforated aluminum shade is backed with a white acrylic diffuser. The base is machined from solid aluminum and studded with four rubber feet. A porcelain socket permits incandescents up to 150 watts. 63 Flushing Avenue, Unit 271, Brooklyn, NY 11205; 718-625-7661; fabuluxinc.com. circle 380
