From October 14-20, visitors to New York’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum gain free admission to both the museum and special programs. Marking the museum’s second annual National Design Week, the festivities are a tribute to design and its role in daily life, according to organizers.
In addition to public events, a variety of online resources will be offered for students, teachers, design professionals, and the general public. Focusing on taking design to the classroom, the resources include 140 lesson plans and discussion boards. In addition, through October 16, the public is invited to nominate and vote online for “good design,” through the People's Design Awards program. Last year, the award went to the Katrina Cottage, a prefab structure developed in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. This year, the nominees include the Tesla Roadster, an electric sports car.
The winner of the People’s Design Award and the winners of the museum’s internationally-renowned National Design Awards program will be honored October 18 with an evening gala at the museum.
We would love your feedback!
