A Form of Worship

Jen DeRose -- Interior Design, 5/1/2006 12:00:00 AM

NeoCon attendees may want to stick around for the Art Institute of Chicago's "Douglas Garofalo." Garofalo Architects is known for collaborating on the digitally designed Korean Presbyterian Church of New York, hailed as one of the first "blob" buildings.

Garofalo's first solo museum exhibition, it showcases 17 projects. They include his newest building, Chicago's Hyde Park Art Center—a departure from his more sculptural designs. Behind the glass curtain wall, pull-down screens and shades show projections of electronic art, visible to the local community from sidewalks and train platforms.

Both the art center and the church are appearing in digital videos, while nearly 60 digital prints, drawings, and models cover his residential, public, and conceptual work from the past 14 years. June 17–October 8; 312-443-3600; artic.edu.
