Ovation From Arup

edited by Sheila Kim -- Interior Design, 10/1/2002 12:00:00 AM

Last fall, New York's American Folk Art Museum reopened to great fanfare in a building by Tod Williams Billie Tsien & Associates. The striking Tombasil-clad structure continues to wow the design-minded public, beating out nearly 300 international projects in 45 countries to receive top honors at the 2002 Arup World Architecture Awards. To wit: best new building in the world, best new building completed in North America, and world's best new public or cultural building. Arup lauded the museum's artistic expression and on-time, on-budget completion. Tod Williams and Billie Tsien accepted the $30,000 prize in person at an awards ceremony in Berlin.
