Air Styles

Craig Kellogg -- Interior Design, 4/1/2005 12:00:00 AM

Air France is no stranger to couture, having hired the likes of Dior and Balenciaga to design uniforms in the past. Now, the carrier has asked Christian Lacroix to update 36,000 uniforms for its staff in the public eye.

His solution is a 100-piece collection of nipped-waist navy suits for men and women with jacquard linings—plus accessories. Coveted accents include bandanas, gloves, navy purses with red lining, and even cowhide pumps. But you'll likely have to fly to see them. They're available to employees only, and strict security regulations forbid unauthorized wearers. When uniforms are retired or damaged, they're destroyed. The line debuted this month on all flights.
