Aid to Artisans, a nonprofit organization that fosters craftsmanship in developing countries, bestowed its first annual awards last month in New York. Sponsored by Eziba, a retailer of handcrafted goods, the occasion brought Simon Doonan, Paul Mathieu, and 100 other supporters to Clodagh Design International to toast the honorees. One award went to Jonathan Adler for his work with potters in Peru and weavers in Kyrgyzstan. Carol Cassidy was recognized for preserving the silk-weaving industry of Laos through her company, Lao Textiles.
