The High Point Market is giving power to the people. The North Carolina home furnishings showcase, running from October 17 to 22, is introducing the first-ever People's Choice Award as part of the annual High Point Market Showroom Display and Merchandising Ideas Competition.

Now in its third year, the competition singles out the most innovative and creative showroom display at the biannual show, which celebrates its centennial this month. While the Best of Market Award is determined by an industry jury, the People's Choice Award allows market-goers to vote for their favorite showroom design through Twitter or standard text messaging.

To compete for the Best of Market Award, exhibitors must submit a photograph and brief description of their display at www.highpointmarket.org by 10 a.m. on October 17, the opening day of market. Entries will be judged on the afternoon of October 19, and the winner announced at the Stars Under the Stars event that evening, along with the People's Choice honoree. Winners of both awards will be highlighted in a press release to major home furnishings trade and consumer publications, and featured on the High Point Market website.

"Designers and retailers have long known that the High Point Market is the place where trends begin—and a great place to discover fresh, new merchandising ideas," says Brian Casey, president and CEO of the High Point Market Authority. "Buyers tell us they use the ideas they find here in their stores when they return home. The competition honors the extraordinary creativity and exchange of ideas that occur here."
