Christie’s was founded in 1766, but its business plan is speeding down a 21st century track. This week, the international auction house launched Christie’s Live, a real-time online audio and video experience for any bidder with internet access.
With this new technology, collectors and enthusiasts around the globe can virtually attend auctions at Christie’s international salerooms. Part of the firm’s ongoing international expansion, the initiative will be introduced at select sales—including the historic October sales of Star Trek memorabilia—in New York and London, during a six-month introductory phase.
To bid on items, participants must download customized software and complete registration (free) no later than two business days before the sale.
“Christie’s Live will allow us to bring to an unlimited online audience the finest property, and those bidders will be able to participate in real-time in the excitement of the live sale room,” says Edward Dolman, Christie’s CEO.
We would love your feedback!
