On the hunt for an architect? The American Institute of Architects has launched a new Web site, howdesignworks.aia.org, designed to ease the process. The site features the online search tool “Architect Finder,” and tips for making the best decision. Plus, useful information addresses “key stages” of the architectural design process.
Tools include tutorials, fact sheets, sections for energy efficient design strategies and frequently asked questions, and information about selecting contracts for residential projects. Two streaming videos walk users through the entire design process for both a residential and an education project, from the initial meeting with the architect to the final result. Another presents a case study about an architect introducing sustainable elements into a home in Minneapolis.
“Hiring an architect shouldn’t be an overwhelming process, but there are a number of important issues for clients to consider,” says Christine McEntee, AIA executive vice-president and CEO. “Whether someone is renovating their home to incorporate design elements that save electricity, or is building a first home, our goal is to clearly outline how working with an architect from the first stages of a project is essential.”
Users also get an exclusive look at a renovation of an abandoned laundry building in New Jersey—the building is now a high school featuring sustainable elements.
We would love your feedback!
