Design Symposium in Vienna

Speakers will take an unconventional approach to the future of living.

Mairi Beautyman -- Interior Design, 8/17/2006 12:00:00 AM

On October 5, some of the world’s most innovative designers, architects, and progressive thinkers will gather in Vienna for the third annual Future Forum. The topic for the 2006 symposium, sponsored by Design Hotels, is “The Future of Living/The Redefinition of 'Home' and New Concepts for Living.” During the event, speakers will explore the traditional notions of space, home, and ways of living, and address the transformation currently underway, which could lead to more flexible concepts.

Panel speakers from diverging backgrounds will take an unconventional approach to the future of living, drawing examples from environmentalism, economics, aesthetics and urbanization, among other fields. Speakers are industrial designer, architect, and philosopher Friedrich von Borries, partner of the Berlin-based practice Raumtaktik, and author of Who is Afraid of Niketown; UK-based industrial designer Ross Lovegrove; architect and philosopher, Greg Lynn, professor at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna; interior architect Nik Schweiger, co-founder of 3deluxe; and architect Jenny Siegal, author of Mobile: The Art of Portable Architecture, and founder of the Office of Mobile Design. Tom Savigar, trends director of Viewpoint Magazine will serve as moderator.

The event will be held from 2pm-6pm in Vienna’s Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde (otherwise known as the Musikverein), in the Glass Hall/Magna Auditorium. The Musikverein is located at 12 Boesendorferstrasse. Tickets are 10 euro and may be purchased online after September 1, or, if available, at the door the day of the event.
