Architecture firm Michael Graves & Associates will spearhead a redesign of hospitality chain Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, which has hotels and resorts throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
Highlights in the initial prototypes include a lounge where guests can convene, work and eat; a 24-hour food mart; and a front porch with rocking chairs. A unique "pod" system, designed without barriers, replaces the traditional hotel front desk and creates a more interactive experience with hotel staff.
Guest rooms, decorated with wallpaper, photographic images, and the firm's original artwork, will feature a large work desk and a welcome center with a coffeemaker, television remote control, ice bucket and minifridge. Power and Internet outlets are available through the Wyndham Smart Chair, which is designed to provide guests with a functional place to use their laptop computer, charge their personal data assistant and connect to the Internet. The chair's fabric resists stains and bacteria.
Previous hospitality projects for the firm include the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels in Orlando and the El Gouna Golf Hotel and Club Egypt. Wyndham Hotels and Resorts is a subsidiary of Cendant Corporation, based in Parsippany, New Jersey.
