The American Institute of Architects (AIA) New York Chapter's annual Design Awards Program, which recognizes “excellence in architectural design” by New York architects and in New York projects, has announced its 2006 guidelines. Architects who wish to be considered can register and submit project information online. The deadline to register is April 21, and all submissions must be received by the AIA no later than May 5.
Submissions in the categories of Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Projects (commissioned or non-commissioned) will be considered. Projects must meet one of two requirements: Architecture located anywhere in the world designed by AIA New York Chapter members or registered architects practicing in New York City; or, architecture located in New York City designed by registered architects practicing anywhere in the world (AIA New York members and non-members alike are invited to submit). Associate AIA New York Chapter members may submit in the Projects category only. Built work must have been completed and un-built projects must have been initiated after January 1, 2001.
Each entry in the AIA New York Design Awards program is judged on individual merit rather that against other entries. Criteria to be considered includes quality of design; resolution of the program or idea; and innovation, thoughtfulness, and technique. The jury’s decisions will be based entirely on materials submitted; no site visits will be made. The jury will include Moshe Safdie, of Moshe Safdie and Associates, and Alan Plattus, of Yale University, among others.
The 2006 Design Awards winners will be announced at the May 8 Public Symposium. The Design Awards Luncheon, hosted by the AIA New York Chapter and the Center for Architecture Foundation, will be held on June 28. An exhibit of projects will be shown at the Design Awards Exhibition, which opens June 29 at the New York's Center for Architecture and will be on view through August 26.
We would love your feedback!
