NeoCon World's Trade Fair

edited by Alexa Yablonski -- Interior Design, 8/1/2003 12:00:00 AM

A real showstopper

Inspired by sports, Christophe Marchand's ProActiveChair for International Contract Furnishings is a clear winner. The seat and back are PET, a recyclable thermoplastic used for snowboards and water bottles; the chair's three-dimensional mesh upholstery resembles sneaker fabric. Wessel Associates, 1350 Reynolds Avenue, Suite 114, Irvine, CA 92614; 949-660-9441. circle 313

KnollTextiles

We blame Stephen Sprouse's window installation at Knoll's Merchandise Mart showroom for many late appointments: Rubbernecking was inevitable. The fashion designer tagged the leather of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona chairs and fabrics such as Graffiti Camo, emblazoned with words from the Declaration of Independence. Camo exhibits a more demure look. 105 Wooster Street, New York, NY 10012; 212-343-4000; knolltextiles.com. circle 319

Teknion

With Contessa, you can sit back and…adjust. Levers in the armrest allow users to raise, lower, and recline the seat without ever getting up. The sleekness comes courtesy of Giugiaro Design—whose founder, Giorgetto Giugiaro, has worked for Alfa Romeo, BMW, and Bugatti. 1150 Flint Road, Toronto, Ontario M3J 2J5, Canada; 416-661-3370; teknion.com. circle 314

Thonet

Poul Christiansen and Boris Berlin of Denmark's Komplott Design created the Gubi side chair with an organically shaped shell in beech, walnut, or maple veneer. The look suits just about any setting, from conference room to café. 9387 Dielman Industrial Drive, Saint Louis, MO 63132; 800-551-6702; thonet.com. circle 315

Chilewich/Silent Gliss Group

First, there were mesh fruit bowls. Then came surprisingly chic vinyl flooring. Now Sandy Chilewich has turned her attention to window treatments and room dividers. Her company partnered with Silent Gliss Group to design a line of roller shades and panel glides in woven-vinyl WindowLace, which comes in a selection of openwork patterns. Chilewich, 7 East 30th Street, New York, NY 10016; 212-679-9204; chilewich.com. circle 317 Silent Gliss Group, 4060 Bay Creek Church Road, Loganville, GA 30052; 800-938-7225. circle 318

JM Lynne

A forest floor scattered with autumnal twigs inspired Patty Madden's randomly patterned Shards, available in 20 colorways. 2002 Orville Drive North, Suite B, Ronkonkoma, NY 11779; 800-645-5044; jmlynne.com. circle 316

Lightspace

A tribute to the right angle, the Cartesian I pendant features a rectangular stepped canopy in a gossamer-aluminum, satin-aluminum, or matte white finish. The seamless design includes an 18-gauge Teflon-insulated stainless-steel braided cable and two 54-watt T-5 lamps. 944 Folsom Street, San Francisco, CA 94107; 800-276-2693; architecturallighting.com. circle 320

Unika Vaev

With the Tempo collection, Dorothy Cosonas continues to keep pace in the contract textile market, increasingly dominated by attractive top-performers. Paisley gets a mod makeover in Crescendo, one of the collection's best. 607 Norwich Avenue, Taftville, CT 06380; 800-237-1625; unikavaev.com. circle 321

Herman Miller

The ergonomic Mirra chair features a one-piece TriFlex backrest—with built-in flex zones—and a FlexFront adjustable seat edge. Designed to fit a variety of environments, Mirra offers eight colors for the back, 10 for the seat. 855 East Main Avenue, P.O. Box 302, Zeeland, MI 49464; hermanmiller.com. circle 324

Haworth

A spate of new products reflects this company's snazzy makeover. Tutti transcends the parameters of typical furniture systems with a group of compatible product families.
