A Naturally Inspired Award-Winning Shadecloth

Long Island City, NY, November 2009—At this year’s Greenbuild® International Conference and Expo, MechoShade Systems showcased its new eco-friendly window covering, EcoVeil® Naturals.
The Naturals received the prestigious 2009 Best of NeoCon® silver award in two categories—Window Treatments and Healthcare Textiles. In more recent news, it has just been announced that the Naturals are a finalist in Interior Design magazine’s annual Best of Year design competition. Winners will be announced on December 3rd, 2009. The Naturals received all of these accolades for good reason.
The EcoVeil® Naturals Series is the latest Cradle to CradleSM shadecloth. The material has a softer hand and more natural look than traditional solar screens. This summer, the state-ofthe- art series became GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified® and GREENGUARD® Children & SchoolsSM certified.
Commercial quality with a residential aesthetic
A member of the original EcoVeil® family, the Naturals feature a highly textured jacquard weave, available in neutral colors and compatible with any décor. The weaves reference the appearance of traditional window coverings in natural reeds, grasses, and woven woods.
Like the EcoVeil® Screens, the Naturals are sustainable, flame retardant, washable, antifungal, and highly durable. These characteristics make them well suited not only for residential projects but also for commercial application, such as hospitality and health-care facilities, where a homey ambiance is desirable. The eight colors range from soft white to warm brown. The Naturals are 2% open and available up to 66 in. (168cm) wide. The shadecloth can be a component in most of MechoShade Systems’ manual and motorized shade systems, including the Mecho®/5 manual-shade system, recognized as a Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM silver product.
Other highly desirable features include the appreciable reductions of glare from direct sun; solar heat gain; and, in turn, HVAC energy costs.
Unique construction
The construction is a co-extrusion of TPO yarns; one is a constituent of the original Cradle to CradleSM EcoVeil® Screens, and the other is a polyolefin. The combination produces a soft, more-natural hand, which avoids the artificial feeling and appearance of most synthetic screen cloths.
The EcoVeil® Naturals are recognized as Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM silver because all chemical inputs—down to 100 parts per million used in the production—have been evaluated for human health and safety by MBDC, the product and process-design firm of William McDonough and Michael Braungart. And the material can be recycled continuously—in fact, can be repolymerized and woven into a new shadecloth or made into other TPO-based products.
