Winning Streaks

The Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, announced the winners of the second annual National Design Awards, a competition launched at the White House last year to celebrate various design disciplines. This year's Lifetime Achievement was awarded to Robert Wilson, whose 30-year career has explored the human experience from theater and dance to furniture design. Tupperware received the award for Corporate Achievement for success in both brand position in the marketplace and design aesthetic. The Design Patron Award was bestowed upon Stanley Marcus, chairman emeritus of Neiman Marcus, for his support of architecture. The finalists of the awards in architecture, communications, environment, and product design include Asymptote, Peter Eisenman, Pierre Koenig, Ed Fella, John Maeda, Lorraine Wild, Julie Bargmann, Diller + Scofidio, LOT/EK, Maharam, David Kelley/IDEO, and Nike.
