National Design Museum Announces Finalists for Fifth National Design Awards

Winners in eight categories will be honored at a gala dinner on October 19.

Who knew good design could come out of the White House? Originally launched at the White House in 2000 as a project of the White House Millenium Council, the National Design Awards, held at Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum,  recognize contributions to design in eight categories: Lifetime Achievement, Coporate Achievement, Architecture Design, Communications Design, Environment Design, Fashion Design, Product Design and the Design Patron Award.

And the nominees are...

• Lifetime Achievement Award Winner: Milton Glaser

• Coporate Achievement Award Winner: The Aveda Corporation

• Architecture Design Award Finalists: Rick Joy, Polshek Partnership, Joseph E. Spear, Rafael Vinoly

• Communications Design Award Finalists: @radical.media, MTV Music Television, Second Story

• Environmental Design Award Finalists: Andropogon Associates, Ltd., Ned Kahn, William McDonough + Partners

• Fashion Design Award Finalists: Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez, Yeohlee Teng Product Design Award Finalists: Yves Behar, Interface, Inc., Burt Rutan

The winners of the latter six awards will be announced at a gala dinner held at the the Cooper Hewitt Museum on Fifth Avenue on October 19, 2004. The event will be attended by Honorary Patron Laura Bush.
