Artist in Residence

Mark McMenamin -- Interior Design, 2/1/2010 12:00:00 AM

The paintings of Gerhard Richter, sculptures of Richard Serra, and sound compositions of John Cage sparked Laura Kirar's fascination with avant-garde art and music. That interest comes through in the four patterns of her New Moderns series for Tufenkian Artisan Carpets. Both the linear abstractions of Chant Black and the striated randomness of Fragment are hand-knotted in Tibetan wool blended with hemp. The rugs come in seven standard sizes, from 2 by 3 feet to 12 by 16, in addition to custom ones. 212-475-2475; tufenkian.com.circle 432
