Designer John Maeda has been named the 16th president of the Rhode Island School of Design, succeeding Roger Mandle, who served a 15-year tenure.
Furniture manufacturer Teknion Corporation has signed an agreement to be purchased by 2158436 Ontario Limited, an affiliate of Teknion’s controlling shareholder, A-Tean Holdings, for a price of $3.15 cash per share.
Orlando-based architecture firm HuntonBrady Architects has eight new hires. Crystal Smith is office manager; Mario DeJesus, Edward Thomas, and Dennis Cole will work in healthcare; Charlie McNamara will work in design; Meltem Plotts will work in education; Ryan Chmielewski will work in commercial; and Butch Ellerby will work in construction administration.
Bob Carlson of St. Cloud, Minnesota was named interim president for office furniture dealer WorkPlace Furnishings following the untimely death of president and CEO Dennis J. Insogna.
Award-winning southern California modernist architect Wayne R. Williams died on November 27 at the age of 88.
Alexander K. Davis moves up to director of product development engineering for contract furniture manufacturer Halcon, a Teknion company.
Consulting firm the Loukin Company now represents Italian wood manufacturer Giorgetti. Giorgetti will open its first U.S. showroom in February in the New York Design Center in New York. The Loukin Company has also hired a new staff member, Nora Wolf.
Cristian Stefanescu moves up to associate at architecture and interior design firm the Switzer Group.
Lighting manufacturer Luxo has selected Performance Lighting Systems to represent the firm in southern California.
Textile manufacturer Chella Textiles is represented by the new ROMO showroom in New York's D&D Building.
David W. Hewett was appointed to the board of trustees of the International Facility Management Association Foundation.
Furniture manufacturer Herman Miller has entered into an agreement to purchase Brandrud Furniture, a Seattle-based manufacturer of healthcare furnishings.
Education architecture firm SHW Group has four additions to its Texas Higher Education studio: Eric Miller, Deborah Ebersole, Jeremy Theodore, and Troy Contreras.
Floorcovering distributor Weavercraft Distributors in Vancouver, British Columbia now represents carpet manufacturer Brintons' line of stocked and custom commercial carpets. Brintons has also hired Nadia Burton as senior field designer, based in its Atlanta headquarters.
Furniture manufacturer USM Modular Furniture has entered the Canadian market. The firm is represented by Avenue Road in Toronto.
Dodge-Regupol, known for its recycled rubber products under the Ecosurface and Everlast brands, has a new name, Ecore International.
As part of a strategic rebranding initiative head up by the Wool Industry Network, New Zealand Wool will launch a new business focusing on fiber sales. The business is expected to be operational in July 2008.
