Scrapile

Making a narrow escape from the landfill, discarded wood (solids, plywoods, and composites) finds new purpose in the hands of these Brooklyn designers. Scraps are conjoined and laminated, finished with a Danish linseed oil, and then turned into winsome creations. Undeniably hip and exceptionally practical, these stackable crates and trays can be combined to suit your modular fancy. The crate is 12 inches wide by 18 inches long by 101/2 inches high; the tray is 12 inches wide by 18 inches long by 3 inches high. 70 North 6th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11211; 718-218-6737; scrapile.com. circle 670

Project Import Export

The sculptural Tonecoon daybed lends new meaning to the term "spooning." Its inviting curves are shored up by a durable rattan frame covered with a lacquered skin of woven water hyacinth. The manufacturer has transformed this hardy plant—which grows in such abundance that it's often an environmental nuisance—into unique, handmade home furnishings. It is approximately 5 feet 6 inches wide, 6 feet 6 inches long, and 3 feet tall. 19331 Southwest 31st Court, Miramar, FL 33029; 786-543-3037; projectimportexport.com. circle 671

This manufacturer throws the quest for green into high gear with the Earthshapes collection: resilient and recyclable rubber floors made from reclaimed car tires. All three flecked styles—Discovery, Structure, and Exploration—are available in a wide spectrum of shades and in a 38-inch straight-edge square or a 37-inch interlocking tile. Eligible for LEED points in the Materials & Resources (MR) and Indoor Environmental Quality (EQ) categories. 512 North Broadway, Oklahoma City, OK 73102; 866-772-4772; tomkt.com. circle 674

Greystone Home

The simple weave and soothing palette of Arizona is reminiscent of that state's tranquil desert scenery. The perfect texture to soften even the straightest edge, this textile is easily applied to any hard surface as a wall-covering or upholstery. Woven in Italy from cellulose and cotton, it is 54 inches wide and is offered in four colors, Sage Green, Dijon, Linen, and brown. 152 West 57th Street, New York, NY 10019; 866-473-9826; greystonehomecollection.com. circle 672
