The Golden Age

Staff -- Interior Design, 8/1/2001 12:00:00 AM

The Indianapolis Museum of Art will present more than 100 objects from Moscow, many of which will be in the United States for the first time, in Gifts to the Tsars, 1500-1700 Treasures from the Kremlin. The objects, spanning the reigns of Ivan the Terrible to Peter the Great, tell the story of Russia's transformation from a regional power into a mighty empire and display the splendor of the various tsars' courts. Highlights include a dagger and sheath encrusted with gems and gold (top) and a gold-and-jewel-encrusted drinking vessel (right). Sep. 23–Jan. 13, 2002. Indianapolis Museum of Art: 1200 West 38th Street; (317) 923-1331
