Art Institute of Seattle Interior Design Program Receives Accreditation

The school's interior design BFA becomes one of only three accredited programs in the State of Washington.

The Council for Interior Design Accreditation has given its blessings to the interior design program at the Art Institute of Seattle. The organization, which itself is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and ensures that programs prepare students for entry-level positions in a practice, has awarded the school's Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design a six-year accreditation.

The announcement caps a five-year effort by the college to gain accreditation and its interior design program becomes one of only three CIDA accredited programs in the state of Washington.

CIDA’s evaluators visited the school’s campus in November 2009 and conducted an intense examination. Its report stated that the college’s “students demonstrated a strong understanding of globalization and the implications of practicing in a global market,” and that they had a “strong understanding of the contributions of interior design in contemporary society.”

The CIDA concluded that “parents, students, and employers of graduates can be assured that [The Art Institute of Seattle’s Interior Design Program] meets the rigors of peer review and develops the skills and knowledge required to practice interior design.”
