From November 7-8, the hospitality industry gathered in London’s Old Billingsgate Market for contract interiors event Sleep 06. Attendees—including hoteliers, analysts, developers, architects, and designers—eagerly anticipated the results of the ninth annual European Hotel Design Awards.
Awards were bestowed in nine categories. This year, the prestigious Hotel Design of the Year Award went to Hospes Palacio de los Patos, in Granada, Spain. The reconstructed 19th-century town palace also earned the Best Hotel Architecture award, in the conversion of an existing building category. Located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, Hospes Palacio is part of the Design Hotels Group, which earned a grand total of five awards in the 2006 awards program.
Also notable is this year’s Judges Discretionary Award, which went to Mary Fox Linton, principal of interior design firm Fox Linton Associates.
