Lee Prince, principal of U.K.-based Light + Design Associates garnered the prestigious title Lighting Designer of the Year at the U.K.'s 2009 Emap Lighting Design Awards. Held in London March 12, the annual awards program singled out 15 winners this year: 12 for lighting projects and three for product innovations.

Hailed for his "tremendous versatility and skill," Prince's award-winning projects include fitness center Gymbox 3. The judges described the project: "Color was used dramatically to give excitement and theater to the former bank vaults directly complimenting the almost industrial feel of the lighting equipment."
Additional winners include Arup Lighting for the Web of Light project in Liverpool, U.K.; Kevan Shaw Lighting Design for the Public in West Bromwich, U.K.; and DPA Lighting Design for Niketown in London. Speirs and Major Associates picked up the international prize for the Armani Ginza Tower in Tokyo.
