In Design We Trust

The Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, announced the winners of the first annual National Design Awards at a gala benefit held in New York last month. The museum presented awards for excellence in Environment, Product, and Communications Design to Lawrence Halprin, Paul MacCready, and Ralph Appelbaum, respectively. Also honored were Frank Gehry for lifetime achievement as well as the late John Hejduk and Morris Lapidus, who were honored as American Originals. The event raised more than $600,000 for Cooper-Hewitt and its educational programs.
