The American Institute of Architects (AIA), CoreNet Global, and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) singled out Tricycle to receive a special award at this year’s Sustainable Leadership Awards ceremony. The judges bestowed the sustainable design company, which produces digitally-accurate carpet samples for manufacturers such as Interface, with a Special Recognition for Innovation.
Tricycle’s digitally modeled paper print carpet samples are used by architects and interior designers during the early rounds of design decision making. Last year, the samples saved over 56,500 pounds of carpet samples from landfill and conserved 9,425 gallons of oil, according to press material. Courtesy of the firm’s online tools, designers created nearly 80,000 simulations and installed virtual carpet into over 385,000 room scenes.
"According to the judges, Tricycle developed a new way to solve a long-standing environmental problem without sacrificing quality or design excellence," notes Martha Parker, program manager for the awards. "The company embodies a spirit of environmental entrepreneurship."
The Sustainable Leadership Awards program, now in its fifth year, recognizes best practices, design and development excellence, and sustainable leadership. This year’s winners are Herman Miller, Texas Instruments, and HOK.
