After receiving 1,126 submissions from around the globe, a jury for the Pentagon Memorial competition has narrowed the field to six: Mason Wickham of Brooklyn, New York, Jacky Bowring of Canterbury, New Zealand, Michael Meredith of Clifton Park, New York, Shane Williamson of Toronto, Julie Beckman of New York, and Jean Koeppel of Brooklyn. All received a $20,000 stipend to develop their ideas, which will be reviewed this month for final judging. Among the concepts are Wickham's communal table with 184 benches—one for each of the Pentagon attack victims—enclosed in a walled garden. Koeppel envisioned 184 glass monoliths standing adjacent to a pool, with visitors able to write temporary personal messages in condensation that settles on the surfaces.
We would love your feedback!
