First Surface Treatment Certified for Clean Air

TioxoFresh breaks down VOCs and TioxoClean combats organic matter with a thin film.

Mairi Beautyman -- Interior Design, 1/15/2008 12:00:00 AM

Surface treatment manufacturer TioxoClean has picked up the first indoor air quality certifications from Scientific Certification Systems for photocatalytic surface treatments.

The company's water-based, grime preventing, air purifying TioxoFresh coatings for fabrics and self-cleaning TioxoClean surface treatments for walls and other rigid surfaces satisfy criteria for SCS Indoor AdvantageT Gold.

To earn the certification, TioxoFresh and TioxoClean underwent extensive testing. Both products meet the health-based exposure limits required by the state of California for school children and the CHPS Low-Emitting Materials requirements outlined in the California Section 01350 Specification. The latter, the first health-based building material specification, is also North America's most stringent criteria for indoor air emissions.

TioxoFresh performs at the at the molecular level, according to the manufacturer, breaking up VOCs (volatile organic compounds) to wipe out odor. TioxoClean creates a film that prevents the buildup of any organic matter--such as bio-film, bacteria, molds, or fungi.
