A Star is Born

-- Interior Design, 2/1/2001 12:00:00 AM

Designer Hassan Abouseda, founder of the furniture company HAF, recently introduced two new lines-Zoser, a series of tables named after the Pharaoh who built the step pyramid in Egypt, and Nigma, a line of casegoods named after the Arabic word for Star. Shown here is the Zoser bedside table; the series also includes a coffee table, nightstand, and desk. The Nigma cabinet and dresser, made of dark-stained mahogany, feature front detailing of aluminum panels (anodized or mirror polished). "This metal skin is then peeled back at the corners," says Abouseda, "allowing it to function as drawer and door pulls." In some pieces, such as the dresser, the aluminum panel covers the entire drawer front. In other pieces, like the cabinet, the metal is used as an accent. Also offered are a nightstand, credenza, and armoire. Custom configurations are available for both collections. HAF, 79 Grand Street, New York, NY 10013.
