Sustainable Design Event in Los Angeles

Tickets are $450 per person and $800 per couple.

On August 19, the Decorative Arts Council at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) will present a unique fundraising event in Venice, California, intended to raise awareness of sustainable design. Held in the ecologically-designed home of architects Lawrence Scarpa and Angela Brooks in Venice, "Solar Umbrella” will feature a house tour, a sit-down dinner catered by Chinois on Main, and a lecture by Scarpa on the future of sustainable design.

Scarpa and Brooks, who work for the architecture, design, construction, and project management firm Pugh + Scarpa, are both dedicated to using renewable resources, alternative energy sources, and environmentally neutral materials in their buildings. The couple’s home is completely solar-powered, and as a result, inexpensive to run.

Co-chaired by interior designers Sarah Shetter and Alison Palevsky of Shetter Palevsky Interiors (SPI), the event is priced at $450 per person and $800 per couple. All proceeds will go towards acquiring decorative arts for the Museum's collection. “An object's effect on the environment will be a key factor in its importance to the collection,” note event organizers.

Attendees will take home a brochure listing green resources in the LA area ranging from building materials to organic pet food, and gift bags with environmentally friendly products.
