Hyatt to Open Fourth Hotel Under Andaz Luxury Brand

Condos will top the hotel.

Laura B. Weiss -- Interior Design, 10/9/2007 12:00:00 AM

Austin will soon be the site of a new 210-room Hyatt hotel, the fourth property to fall under the Andaz luxury brand. The hotel will be part of the mixed-use East Avenue development in the center of the city and is slated to begin welcoming guests in 2010, according to the East Avenue Investment Group and Global Hyatt Corporation, developers of the project.

The Andaz brand was rolled out in April 2007 and includes a location in London that will be unveiled in mid-October and two scheduled to open their doors in New York in 2009.  Construction on the Austin hotel and condo structure is slated for the second quarter of 2008.

With amenities like a spa and a roof-top restaurant, the 182-foot high building will feature 150 condos that will range in size from 800 to 2,700 square feet, in addition to the hotel. Guests will soak up organic food and drinks and the design will encorporate green building materials and systems.

"The Andaz concept will integrate well with this prime location and Austin's cosmopolitan energy," says Steve Haggerty, global head of real estate and development for Global Hyatt.

To create East Avenue, the former campus of Concordia University will be transformed into 1,450 housing units, 600,000 square feet of office space, and 325,000 square feet retail space, in addition to the 210- room Andaz hotel.
