Net Zero Emissions by 2010

A new Executive Order for the state of California spurred the announcement.

Commercial carpet manufacturer Bentley Prince Street has set 2010 as the year all products will have zero greenhouse gas emissions. Since 1996, through a strategy that encompasses manufacturing, product innovations and renewable energy use, the company has reduced emissions by 70 percent.

The announcement follows California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s new Executive Order calling for reduced greenhouse gas emission targets for the state.

"As California’s largest commercial carpet manufacturer, we believe it’s our responsibility to develop new innovations that preserve our environment. At the same time, we also must take an active role in educating and catalyzing our fellow businesses in the state to join in the effort," says Anthony Minite, president of Bentley Prince Street.

The manufacturer currently functions on 100 percent renewable energy—energy is purchased directly from the grid or through renewable energy certificates. The company also uses solar energy in its manufacturing process.
